Description

The F160 '66 Type draws its inspiration from the famous “66 model”, representative of a period when American jeans gradually evolved from purely functional workwear into an established part of everyday fashion. To develop the F160, FOB Factory studied denim fabrics from the period in order to reproduce not only their proportions, but also their characteristic texture and feel.

The resulting fabric is a 13oz Selvedge denim whose distinctive character comes in part from the use of air-spun yarn. Its dry hand, combined with a deliberately irregular surface, helps recreate the character of the vintage denim fabrics used as references during the development of the F160.

What truly gives this Black version its own personality, however, is the treatment applied to the fabric. FOB Factory officially describes it as a Black Used Wash: rather than retaining the deep and uniform appearance of new black denim, the fabric is extensively processed to soften the intensity of the original colour. Black therefore gives way to a spectrum of grey tones and lighter areas of wear, creating from the outset the appearance of denim that has already been worn for many years.

This ageing treatment is carried out in Okayama, a region closely associated with Japanese denim production. FOB Factory combines processing techniques with manual work to create the Used appearance and characteristic contrasts of the model. The result is particularly effective on this Black version: rather than simply reading as a pair of black jeans, the fabric takes on the appearance of heavily aged black denim, with its different shades further highlighting the texture of the cloth.

The details remain consistent with the F160's vintage inspiration, including a Universal zipper fly, riveted stress points and a screen-printed jacron patch. Together, they preserve the straightforward character of the American jeans that inspired the model while showcasing FOB Factory's expertise in fabric development and finishing.

Fit & sizing

The F160 features a Loose Tapered fit inspired by 1960s silhouettes. The rise is high and the thigh deliberately generous, creating a slightly rounded volume through the upper leg before gradually tapering towards the hem. The resulting shape is reminiscent of a carrot fit, offering plenty of comfort while retaining a structured silhouette.

The inseam is deliberately restrained, allowing the jeans to be worn with little break or with a small cuff. Combined with the washed black-to-grey appearance of this version, these proportions allow the F160 to work equally well with Ivy-inspired combinations or more contemporary casual outfits.

Why we selected it

While the F160 Indigo draws directly on the visual language of vintage American blue jeans, this Black Used Wash version explores the same model from a noticeably different perspective. What interests us here is not simply the use of black denim, but the way FOB Factory works with the colour until it reveals an entire range of greys, contrasts and worn areas. The dry, irregular texture of the 13oz fabric consequently takes on a different dimension, while the Loose Tapered fit retains the unmistakable silhouette of the F160. A version with a genuine identity of its own rather than simply the original model translated into another colour.
