Pure Blue Japan is the project of Kenichi Iwaya, a true denim enthusiast who grew up in Okayama. After gaining experience working in various local factories, he decided to launch his own brand in 1997. Iwaya-San has since been obsessed with producing incredible fabrics, featuring unique textures and distinctive character.
Over the years, Pure Blue Japan has established itself as a must-have reference for denim enthusiasts, thanks to its artisanal approach and uncompromising standards. The XX-002 perfectly showcases the brand’s expertise, built around its iconic XX series fabric. Weighing 14oz, this denim offers an ideal balance between comfort and character. Woven at low tension, it features a pronounced irregular texture, with a slightly "hairy" and grainy appearance typical of PBJ productions. This richness of fabric will allow the jeans to develop deep, high-contrast fades over time, revealing the full complexity of the indigo.
Production of this fabric remains intentionally limited, as the vintage looms used by Pure Blue Japan only allow for low output. Each piece therefore carries a unique character, enhancing the exclusivity of these highly sought-after garments.
It is presented here in the XX-002 Piped Straight fit, a wide straight silhouette inspired by vintage jeans. It features a comfortable high rise, a generous thigh, and a straight leg with minimal taper, offering a natural and authentic drape.
All the iconic details of this renowned manufacturer are of course present: rope-reinforced belt loops, hidden rivets on the back pockets, an embossed lambskin leather patch, as well as the famous "Shoaï" indigo leaf embroidered on the back right pocket. These finishes, combined with the limited production, make this jean a staple in the world of Japanese denim.
Like many Japanese manufacturers, Pure Blue Japan runs small. It is recommended to take one size up from your usual size.
