Description

ONI Denim remains one of Japan's most elusive denim makers. Behind the name stands Oishi-san, a master craftsman who has spent more than sixty years developing some of the industry's most distinctive denim fabrics. Eschewing conventional marketing altogether, the brand has neither an official website nor a social media presence, choosing instead to devote its energy entirely to fabric development. This uncompromising philosophy is one of the reasons why ONI remains something of a cult favourite among denim enthusiasts worldwide.

The 13.5oz Long Slab Denim perfectly reflects this relentless pursuit of innovation. Unlike conventional slub denim, where the yarn irregularities are relatively short and scattered, this fabric is woven from yarns featuring long, uneven variations in thickness, creating an elongated texture that runs throughout the entire fabric. Its organic character is further enhanced by weaving on vintage shuttle looms set to low tension. This slower, looser weaving process allows the cotton to retain its natural loft, resulting in a denim with exceptional depth, a dry and rugged hand, and surprising suppleness despite its highly textured appearance.

The warp yarns are traditionally rope dyed, allowing the indigo to penetrate only the outer layer of each yarn while leaving the core untouched. As the jeans are worn, the indigo gradually fades away along areas of friction, revealing sharp, high-contrast fades. Combined with the pronounced irregularity of the Long Slab Denim, this construction promises remarkable aging, with ever-increasing depth, texture and character emerging over years of wear.

The 822-LS13.5 features ONI's Super Wide Tapered fit, one of the brand's most contemporary silhouettes. Cut generously through the hips and thighs before tapering cleanly towards the hem, it delivers outstanding comfort without sacrificing a refined shape. The ample proportions also allow the exceptional texture of the Long Slab Denim to fully express itself. Thanks to the One Wash treatment, the fabric will stretch with wear and return to its original dimensions after washing, with virtually no shrinkage to expect. We nevertheless recommend choosing one size up from your usual size.
