Despite being a relatively recent creation dating back to 2013, Batoner is the in-house brand of the Okuyama Meriyasu knitwear company, which was established in the 1950s. Batoner, which means "one who inherits", proudly represents the nearly century-old craftsmanship of Japan's Yamagata prefecture, which has been home to some of the best knitting factories in Japan for many years. With only about fifteen of these factories still in operation today, each one strives to preserve the techniques and traditions that have made this region renowned.

In this context, Batoner offers a wide range of sweaters, vests, and cardigans made from their Signature knit. This knit is produced by the family-owned mill Sato Seni, also located in Yamagata. It is made from Merino wool yarn and maintains a substantial weight while being flexible and breathable thanks to a lace stitch. The spinning technique used preserves the authenticity of the wool and gives the final knit a unique ribbed appearance.
