Pure Blue Japan was born from Kenichi Iwaya's passion for traditional Japanese textiles. Based in Okayama, the historical birthplace of Japanese denim, the brand has built a worldwide reputation through uniquely characterful fabrics, produced in limited quantities and developed without compromise.

The XX-019 is built using the iconic XX series denim, the true signature fabric of the brand. Weighing 14oz, this denim is woven at low tension in order to preserve the natural character of the cotton fibres. This manufacturing process creates a highly irregular surface, rich in texture variations and subtle reliefs that enthusiasts often describe as "slubby" or "hairy".

The indigo dye intentionally penetrates the fibres unevenly, encouraging the development of high-contrast fades over time. Thanks to this specific construction, the denim evolves with deep and nuanced fading, characterized by vertical fade patterns and remarkable visual depth after months of wear.

Production of this fabric remains intentionally limited. The looms used by Pure Blue Japan operate at a reduced pace, prioritising fabric quality over productivity.
