Pure Blue Japan is the project of Kenichi Iwaya, a true denim enthusiast who grew up in Okayama. After gaining experience working in various local factories, he decided in 1997 to create his own brand. Iwaya-San has since been obsessed with producing incredible fabrics with unique textures and distinctive character.
This shirt perfectly illustrates Pure Blue Japan’s artisanal approach. Made from cotton tweed with a check pattern, the fabric is hand over-dyed with indigo after garment construction, giving a deeply nuanced color that will evolve over time. The irregular texture provides relief and a singular feel, while the classic straight fit ensures comfort and versatility, whether worn alone or layered.
All iconic PBJ details are present: chain stitch construction, Japanese urea buttons, carefully positioned chest pocket, and the discreet "Indigo Leaf" embroidered logo. Each piece thus benefits from a unique character, reflecting the meticulous craftsmanship of Japanese workshops.
This shirt runs relatively small; we recommend ordering one size larger than your usual size.
