The design of these "Nordic" Crew Socks is inspired by traditional Norwegian sweaters. The geometric pattern is carefully and finely knitted for a typical, hand-knit look. Each color combination is rigorously selected by referring to original patterns. Although Nordic sweaters were originally made from wool, this pair is knitted from organic cotton, allowing them to be worn throughout the year. The specific organic cotton yarn used here is produced using a unique spinning method called "compact spinning," making it durable and resistant to fraying over time.
ROTOTO socks are manufactured in Nara Prefecture, the largest sock-producing region in Japan. The area has been known for its quality textiles since the 17th century. Industrial sock production was first introduced in 1910 when a man from the former village of Umami (now Koryocho) imported a weaving machine from the United States to his hometown after a study trip to the country.
ROTOTO places great value on collaboration in its product research: "We start by selecting the right yarns with artisans to develop the design of a new material. After that, we choose the knitting machines depending on the type of material and the use of the product. This can be rare machines that have a specific use, old non-computerized knitting machines, or, conversely, modern high-tech tools."
ROTOTO socks can only be made by combining the right materials, the right machine, and the craftsman's expertise.
"Preserving the tradition inherited from previous generations while painting the future with a fresh perspective. We will continue to strive to produce items that can only be created here."
