ONI is a mysterious label led by a true denim craftsman — Oishi-san — who has dedicated over 60 years of his life to the craft. Always in pursuit of perfection, he focuses solely on production. That’s why there’s no official website or Instagram page. The label is only available in a select few stores worldwide, and exclusively at Flâneurs in France.
The "Betacham" Chambray Coverall Jacket draws inspiration from the iconic French chore coat of the late 19th century. Here, it is reimagined with a more tailored cut — shorter sleeves and a cropped body — for a more formal silhouette, while preserving the robust spirit of ONI’s traditional workwear.
It is crafted from a beige selvedge chambray with a light weight of 8oz. Woven on vintage shuttle looms, it faithfully reflects the values of Japanese textile heritage — known for meticulous construction and unique textures. The “beta chambray” fabric features a loose, low-tension weave using yarns of varying shades in the warp and weft to create a subtle, refined visual depth. Sulfur dyed for a rich color that evolves over time, it will develop a unique patina with wear.
This piece stands out for its refined details: aged brass “donut” buttons, interior and exterior chest pockets, two patch hand pockets, and a discreet ONI label. Designed and made in Japan to ONI’s exacting standards, this workwear jacket blends textile heritage with contemporary aesthetics. The one wash treatment provides dimensional stability right from the first wear, with no shrinkage expected in future washes.
