Oni is a mysterious label, driven by a true enthusiast who has dedicated 60 years of his life to denim. Always in search of perfection, Oishi-san is continuously innovating, devoting himself exclusively to production. This is why you will find neither a website nor an official Instagram page for this brand. It is also the reason why the label is distributed only in a few stores worldwide, and exclusively at Flâneurs in France.

This season, ONI is pleased to once again offer a model first introduced in Japan: the Kasuri. Incredibly popular and, for some stores, sold out in one day, it is a highly anticipated release whose results have been exactly as imagined. To create this fabric, the unrivaled Oishi-San selected a combination of highly irregular cotton, a very low tension weaving and a very particular dyeing technique: the Kurume Kasuri, which has been part of the intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO since 1957. This technique involves making the indigo absorption uneven by tightly tying knotted threads at very specific points of the cotton thread, thus preventing them from being dyed in the indigo bath.

The result of this precise mix of weaving and dyeing is a highly graphic, iridescent and granular fabric that, despite its final weight of 17oz, turns out to be surprisingly flexible and comfortable. All the usual details offered by ONI are included, from the branded rivets to the leather patch, all combined with chain stitch seams in the purest tradition of Japanese selvedge denim. Interestingly, the selvedge edge here is bicolor, purple and yellow, which led to Oishi-San being compared to the NBA Lakers team.

The 595 "Retro Loose Straight" is a new cut offered by ONI, featuring a standard waist height, a comfortable thigh opening followed by a straight leg from the knee to the ankle. The oval shape echoes both vintage and modern cuts that are particularly prevalent in the Japanese fashion landscape. This model is delivered in One Wash, washed once then sun-dried in Japan, thus setting the size while bringing out the depth of the indigo and the characteristic feel of slubby fabrics.
