XX Development x Flâneurs Revival Denim Tapered Fit

Developed in collaboration with the Japanese manufacturer XX Development, these jeans are part of the Revival Denim project, created around the reproduction of a fabric originally developed by Pony, the brand's founder. Woven at low tension on vintage shuttle looms, this 13.5oz selvedge denim features a particularly pronounced slubby texture and a character true to the brand's traditional approach.

Description

For the past three years, we have been working with XX Development on the Revival Denim project. The idea came from the desire to bring back the very first pair of jeans made by Pony, the brand's founder, around twenty years ago. The project began with the search for the original fabric, before its production was restarted at the manufacturer's workshop in Gifu.

This fabric was developed at a time when the Japanese denim market was going through a particularly difficult economic period. It reflects a desire to create a different kind of denim, incorporating typically Japanese details and craftsmanship without trying to conform to market expectations.

The result is 13.5oz selvedge denim woven at low tension on vintage shuttle looms. Its irregular, textured slubby surface highlights the character of the fabric and reflects the traditional approach at the heart of the Revival Denim project.

Three fits were developed exclusively for the series: Tapered, Regular and Baggy. This Tapered version offers a more streamlined silhouette through the legs while retaining the details and construction characteristic of the project.

Following the first limited production, this Tapered version is now returning to Flâneurs as part of a reissue limited to just 30 pieces. As with the first edition, each pair is made in Gifu, Japan, and features a leather patch specially developed for the collaboration.

For the first release of the project, we also organized a Q&A session with Pony, Jasmine and Bouzu, who discuss the origins of the project, the choice and production of the denim, as well as the connections between France and Japan.

Fit

The Tapered fit offers a comfortable volume through the hips and upper legs before gradually narrowing towards the ankles. A balanced silhouette that gives the jeans a more defined line while retaining enough room for everyday wear.

Why we selected it

For the particular history of this fabric and the work carried out with XX Development to reproduce it. The low-tension weaving, slubby texture and production on vintage shuttle looms give this denim a distinctive character, while the Tapered fit offers a more structured interpretation of this project developed exclusively for Flâneurs. This new reissue, limited to 30 pieces, brings the collaboration back while preserving the series' limited character.
