XX Development x Flâneurs Revival Denim Baggy Fit

Developed in collaboration with Japanese manufacturer XX Development, these jeans are part of the Revival Denim project, which focuses on reproducing a fabric originally developed by Pony, the founder of the brand. Woven at low tension on vintage shuttle looms, this 13.5oz selvedge denim features a particularly pronounced slubby texture and a character that remains true to the brand's artisanal approach.

Description

For the past three years, we have been working with XX Development on the Revival Denim project. The idea was born from a desire to bring back to life the very first pair of jeans made by Pony, the founder of the brand, around twenty years ago. The project began with the search for the original fabric, before production was restarted at the manufacturer's workshop in Gifu.

This fabric was originally developed at a time when the Japanese denim market was going through a particularly difficult economic period. It reflects a desire to create a different kind of denim, incorporating typically Japanese details and craftsmanship without trying to conform to market expectations.

The result is a 13.5oz selvedge denim woven at low tension on vintage shuttle looms. Its irregular, textured slubby surface highlights the character of the fabric and reflects the traditional approach at the heart of the Revival Denim project.

Three fits were developed exclusively for the series: Tapered, Regular and Baggy. This Baggy version features a more generous, relaxed volume while retaining the details and construction that define the project.

Following the initial limited production, this Baggy version is now returning to Flâneurs as part of a restock limited to just 120 pieces. As with the first edition, each pair is made in Gifu, Japan, and features a leather patch specially developed for the collaboration.

For the original release of the project, we also organized a Q&A session with Pony, Jasmine and Bouzu, who discuss the origins of the project, the choice of denim and its production, as well as the ties between France and Japan.

Fit

The Baggy fit offers a generous volume and relaxed silhouette, designed to provide more room through the hips and legs. Its laid-back construction allows the texture and drape of the denim to fully express themselves.

Why we selected it

For the unique history of this fabric and the work carried out with XX Development to reproduce it. The low-tension weave, slubby texture and production on vintage shuttle looms give this denim a distinctive character, while the Baggy fit offers a more generous interpretation of this project developed exclusively for Flâneurs. This new restock, limited to 120 pieces, brings the collaboration back while preserving the limited nature of the series.
