Oni Denim is an iconic Japanese denim house founded by Oishi-san, a legendary master weaver renowned for his very low-tension selvedge fabrics. Produced on vintage shuttle looms, Oni fabrics stand out for their extreme texture, lively hand feel, and unique personality.
This new “Bumpy” model perfectly embodies that philosophy. The fabric itself is actually already well known, as it is a reference previously produced by the brand under the name Kasuri. It is woven using intentionally irregular yarns, creating a deeply bumpy and organic surface. The name Bumpy comes from the appearance of the fabric after overdyeing. The Murasaki dye, applied after construction, is a vivid purple historically associated with Japanese nobility. It enhances the fabric’s natural contrasts, revealing subtle variations between deep purple, dark brown, and almost black undertones.
Over time, this color will evolve into a rich, nuanced patina, revealing the full complexity of the low-tension weave. Lighter than the Secret Denim—the brand’s iconic model—but just as expressive, these 277 Bumpy Murasaki jeans offer immediate comfort and spectacular aging.
