Oni is a mysterious label led by a true denim enthusiast who has dedicated over 60 years of his life to the craft. Constantly striving for perfection, Oishi-san focuses solely on production and continuous experimentation. This is why the brand has no official website or Instagram presence, and why it is only available in a limited number of stores worldwide, exclusively at Flâneurs in France.
The 822 18oz Olive Drab is made from a distinctive selvedge denim, showcasing ONI’s mastery of heavyweight fabrics woven at low tension. The warp yarn is sulfur-dyed in an Olive Drab shade, while the Beige weft remains undyed, resulting in a subtly nuanced appearance and a refined, low-contrast aging process over time.
This type of fabric cannot be produced on modern machines. It requires traditional "shuttle looms" set at an extremely low tension. This specific setting, known as "low tension", causes the machines to vibrate intensely during the weaving process. Combined with the use of naturally irregular cotton yarns, the result is a fabric even more textured than typical "slubby" denim, while retaining a natural softness and comfortable drape. Due to the complexity of this method, very few manufacturers attempt it, but ONI has mastered the process, producing a unique fabric whose quality is widely recognized.
The 822 features a Super Wide Tapered fit: roomy through the hips and thighs, then gradually tapering toward the leg opening. This modern silhouette highlights the texture of the denim and the depth of the Olive Drab color, offering a perfect balance between comfort, style, and artisanal authenticity.
