Description

Pure Blue Japan was born from Kenichi Iwaya's passion for traditional Japanese textiles. Since 1997, the brand has been developing denims in Okayama that are renowned for their unique character, exceptional texture, and ability to develop fades with a depth rarely found in the world of Japanese denim.

The XX-003 is crafted from the iconic XX series denim, widely regarded as the ultimate signature fabric of Pure Blue Japan. Weighing 14oz, this denim is woven at low tension to preserve the natural character of the cotton fibres. This manufacturing method creates a highly irregular surface featuring visible yarn variations, a grainy texture, and the subtle "hairy" appearance that has become synonymous with the brand.

The deep indigo dye used for this fabric is designed to evolve beautifully over time. Thanks to the denim's highly textured structure, areas of wear quickly develop pronounced contrasts and striking vertical fade patterns. This gradual transformation is an integral part of the Pure Blue Japan experience, with each pair developing a unique patina that reflects the lifestyle of its owner.

Production of this fabric remains intentionally limited. The looms operate at a reduced pace in order to preserve the richness of the denim and minimise stress on the yarns during weaving. Like all of the brand's flagship models, the XX-003 features meticulous finishing details, including belt loops reinforced with an internal cord, hidden rear pocket rivets, an embossed lambskin leather patch, and the famous "Shoaï" indigo leaf embroidery on the right back pocket.
