Despite being relatively new, established in 2013, Batoner is the proprietary brand of Okuyama Meriyasu knitwear, which was created in the 1950s. Batoner, meaning "one who inherits", proudly represents the nearly century-old craftsmanship of the Japanese prefecture of Yamagata, which has been home to some of the best knitting factories in Japan for many years. Today, only about fifteen of these factories are still operational, each striving to maintain the techniques and traditions that have made this region famous.

In this context, Batoner offers a wide range of sweaters, vests, and cardigans made from their Signature knit. This knit is crafted by the family-owned mill Sato Seni, also located in Yamagata. It is made from merino wool yarn and features a significant weight while maintaining flexibility and breathability thanks to an openwork stitch. The spinning technique used preserves the authenticity of the wool and gives the final knit a unique ribbed appearance.
