Description

G3 Denim holds a special place in the FOB Factory collection. Its distinctive character comes from the loom on which it is produced: the Toyoda Automatic Loom G3, an early generation of Japanese mechanical looms of which only a small number remain in operation today. Their particularly slow operation allows the cotton to be woven under extremely low tension, resulting in a fabric whose character is closer to a hand-woven textile than to modern industrial denim.

This low-tension construction gives the yarns greater freedom and creates the characteristic texture of the 14oz G3 Selvedge Denim. Its surface features numerous irregularities along with a dry, rugged hand that gives the fabric considerable character from the outset. Despite its weight and initially substantial feel, the construction allows the denim to gradually soften and conform to the wearer's body over time.

It is through repeated wear and washing that the full potential of the G3 Denim becomes apparent. The irregularities created by low-tension weaving directly influence the way the indigo fades, producing a particularly rich and textured patina. Alongside the traditional fading caused by friction and creasing, finer variations gradually emerge across the surface of the fabric, giving each pair its own individual evolution.

Construction remains true to FOB Factory's functional approach, with straightforward and durable details including copper rivets at stress points, a leather patch, zipper fly and chain-stitched finishing. The jeans are entirely manufactured in Japan with the same focus on creating a garment designed to be worn and evolve over many years.

Fit & sizing

The F147 features a Tight Straight fit, designed to strike a balance between a fitted silhouette and a straight leg. The mid rise features a slight rearward tilt that comfortably follows the shape of the waist and hips, while the leg remains relatively close without becoming as narrow as a true slim fit. The result is a versatile silhouette that works equally well with sneakers or boots. As this model runs really small, we recommend choosing 2 sizes above your usual size.

The F147 holds a particular place in the history of our selection, as it provided the starting point for our first collaboration with FOB Factory.
