"More Wear, More Wonderful" is the philosophy guiding Omoto Denim, a young Japanese label founded by Hiroki Kishimoto, former general manager of Japan Blue Jeans. Surrounded by some of the finest artisans, Omoto preserves and carries forward the heritage of Japanese denim through traditional techniques combined with a contemporary level of precision.
This 15.5oz denim, beneath its smooth and uniform appearance, reveals a subtle slub texture, recognizable by its natural irregularities. The warp yarns combine long and short staple cotton depending on the sections, creating a more rugged and textured look, while the weft yarns, spun using the traditional “Gara-bo” method, provide a handcrafted irregularity characteristic of the Omoto collection.
The warp yarns, rope-dyed with pure indigo, develop a deep blue tone that will gradually fade with wear, revealing sharp contrasts and pronounced vertical fading enhanced by the slubs and neps. The fabric is woven at low tension on a 1950s Toyoda GL8 automatic loom, resulting in a dense and durable texture. This model is offered in its raw, unwashed state to retain all of its inherent stiffness. It is, however, sanforized, stabilizing the sizing while preserving the natural hand and raw texture of the cotton.
The 0816S Loose Fit is a roomy cut with generous volume, inspired by bespoke trousers and the natural structure of the human body. Its high rise, designed to sit at the navel, is paired with a wide leg from thigh to hem. The jeans feature several distinctive details: signature "Mimi" selvedge ID, a sheepskin leather patch, and herringbone pocket bags with a sewn-in label to record wears and washes, allowing you to track the fabric’s evolution over time.
