A true icon of the sailor's wardrobe, the marinière is one of those timeless pieces that has crossed eras and styles without losing its authenticity. Perpetuated and magnified by the Morbihan knitwear company Le Minor for generations, it was natural that it would integrate seamlessly into a joint project.

Mutually inspired by Japan, we worked together on a voluminous cut, representative of modern Japanese attire. Thus, unlike the authentic marinière with its fitted cut, our Loose Marinière features significant shoulder and chest widths, a more voluminous sleeve, and a shorter length to enhance the boxy effect. The collar has also been redesigned, reducing its usual depth while maintaining its classic boat shape.

The uniqueness of its cut pairs perfectly with one of the thickest cotton fabrics offered by Le Minor. It is crafted from a type of "raw" combed cotton yarn with a typical dry touch, spun in France and then knitted on a mechanical "Gauge 14" machine from the 1960s. The weight of 380gr/m² (+/- 11oz) is more akin to a light sweatshirt than a t-shirt per se, making it a robust marinière, resistant to intensive use and the test of time. This generous thickness also ensures a clean and crisp drape. The deliberately ample shape provides undeniable comfort when worn and pairs perfectly with our Milano knit Noragi, the second piece of this collaboration.
