These city socks from ROTOTO are made of knitted merino wool, providing pleasant cushioning and better heat retention. To enhance their durability and anti-abrasion properties, the fabric is knit while being coated with a special blend of cotton. Despite containing wool, they can be safely washed.
ROTOTO socks are manufactured in Japan's largest sock-producing region, Nara Prefecture. The area has been known for its quality textiles since the 17th century. Industrial sock production was first introduced in 1910 when a man from the former village of Umami (now Koryocho) imported a weaving machine from the United States to his hometown after studying abroad.
ROTOTO places great emphasis on collaboration in their product research: "We start by selecting the right yarns with artisans to develop the design of a new material. After that, we choose the knitting machines based on the type of material and the product's application. This could involve rare machines that serve a specific purpose, old non-computerized knitting machines, or conversely, modern high-tech tools."
The ROTOTO socks can only be made by combining the right materials, the right machine, and the craftsman's expertise.
"Preserving the tradition inherited from previous generations, while painting the future with a fresh perspective. We will continue to try to produce things that can only be created here."
