Based on the design of "tube socks" made in the United States in the late 70s, these ribbed socks from ROTOTO are crafted on a rare old knitting machine, using low-tension soft cotton yarns. The inside of the sole part is brushed for a unique fleece-like feel, distinctive to the Japanese brand.
The ROTOTO socks are manufactured in the largest sock-producing region of Japan, Nara Prefecture. The area has been renowned for its quality textiles since the 17th century. The industrial production of socks was first introduced in 1910 when a man from the former village of Umami (now Koryocho) imported a weaving machine from the United States to his hometown after his study trip to the country.
ROTOTO places high value on collaboration in its product research: "We start by selecting the right yarns with artisans to develop the design of a new material. After that, we choose the knitting machines based on the type of material and the use of the product. These can be rare machines with a specific use, old non-computerized knitting machines, or on the contrary, modern high-tech tools.
The ROTOTO socks can only be produced by combining the right materials, the right machine, and the craftsman's expertise.
