Based on the design of the "tube socks" made in the USA in the late 1970s, these ribbed socks from ROTOTO are crafted using an old special knitting machine, which is hard to find nowadays, from low-tension soft cotton yarns. The inside of the sole part is brushed for a unique fleecy feel, characteristic of the Japanese brand.
ROTOTO socks are made in the largest sock-producing region in Japan, Nara Prefecture. The area has been known for its quality textiles since the 17th century. The industrial production of socks was first introduced in 1910 when a man from the former village of Umami (now Koryocho) imported a weaving machine from the USA to his hometown after a study trip to the country.
ROTOTO highly values collaboration in its product research: "We start by selecting the right yarns with craftsmen to develop the design of a new material. After that, we choose the knitting machines based on the type of material and product use. These can be rare machines that have a specific purpose, old non-computerized knitting machines, or alternatively, modern high-tech tools."
The ROTOTO socks can only be made by combining the right materials, the right machine, and the craftsman's expertise.
"Preserving the tradition inherited from previous generations, while painting the future with a new perspective. We will continue to try to produce things that can only be created here."
