A cornerstone of the Osaka 5, Studio D'Artisan is one of the founding names in Japanese denim as we know it today. For over 40 years, the brand has preserved a meticulous artisanal approach, highlighting weaving and construction methods inherited from the past. The SD-4102 GL3 Type II jacket embodies this philosophy, offering a faithful and refined interpretation of a classic piece from American workwear heritage.
Inspired by the early 1950s Type II denim jacket, the SD-4102 retains the iconic elements of the original design: a short, structured cut, two chest pockets with flaps, ease pleats for added comfort, and waist adjustment tabs to tailor the silhouette. Versatile, it can be worn alone on warmer days or layered under a heavier jacket when temperatures drop.
Woven on the GL3 loom, successor to the famous G3, this fabric benefits from a century of Japanese innovation, from the textile revolution of Toyoda (Toyota’s parent company) to SDA’s artisanal expertise. Every detail has been carefully calibrated, from the choice of super slub yarn no.7 to the depth of the indigo, resulting in denim with rich texture and low tension, promising unique fades and optimal comfort.
Pre-washed in the factory (one wash), the jacket retains the essence of raw denim while limiting shrinkage, ensuring a stable fit from the first wear. Construction details showcase the care of Studio D'Artisan: signature metal buttons, selvedge edge visible inside the button placket, durable finishes, and an embossed leather patch applied on the back. An authentic and long-lasting piece designed to accompany its wearer for years, gradually developing a story unique to them through its future fades.
