"More Wear, More Wonderful" is the guiding principle followed by Omoto Denim, a young Japanese label created by Hiroki Kishimoto, former general manager of Japan Blue Jeans. By surrounding himself with the best Japanese craftsmen, Omoto Denim aims to continue promoting Japanese denim craftsmanship by preserving the skills and traditional techniques that have built its reputation.

The denim used here, weighing a versatile 13.5oz, is made from a blend of American and Zimbabwean cotton. Memphis cotton (65%) is a raw cotton that combines firmness and flexibility, while Zimbabwean cotton (35%) offers a good balance between softness and durability. This denim, woven at low tension on a 1950s Sakamoto shuttle loom, features pure indigo rope dying on its warp thread and retains a white thread on its weft. This combination ensures the typical look and fluffy texture of 1950s denim as well as a rich and nuanced patina to develop over time.

When it comes to referring to an iconic piece in the history of denim, it's impossible not to mention the Type I jean jacket. Created in 1905, this version has significantly evolved the perception of denim garments, initially reserved for miners and workers, and allowed the jean jacket to become a staple in everyday attire.

The 3115 offered by Omoto Denim revisits the traditional Type I basics such as the unique chest pocket, ease pleats surrounding the button placket, and the original boxy cut associated with the back martingale, while infusing it with a touch of modernity. Two side pockets have been added and sewn on the reverse side of the jacket to create 2 interior pockets simultaneously. The chest pocket, originally equipped with a buttoned flap, is here a patch pocket reinforced with 2 rivets on either side of the opening. The collar size has been reduced, and 2 back pleats have been added to cinch the jacket for more versatility. These adjustments offer this revision the appeal of a vintage piece mixed with a decidedly modern cut.
