The Cardinal Sumi Bandana by One Ear Brand is part of the brand’s highly graphic and narrative universe, known for transforming the traditional bandana into a true textile illustration object. Each piece is conceived as a standalone artistic composition, inspired by historical 19th-century “Turkey Red” bandanas and reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.
The “Cardinal” motif revisits classic vintage bandana codes with a symmetrical structure and highly detailed border work, while replacing traditional central motifs with stylized cardinals. The entire design is reimagined by artist Yurika Shikai, offering a modern interpretation rather than a direct reproduction.
Made in Japan in the Kansai region, this bandana is printed on high-quality cotton using an artisanal process involving hand printing and hand finishing techniques. The Sumi dye, a soft Japanese black tone, brings depth to the design and pairs naturally with denim, deep red, and ecru tones.
More than a simple accessory, One Ear Brand designs its bandanas as hybrid cultural objects: part scarf, part textile piece, and part artistic medium, intended to be worn, used, or collected.
